The scene comes from Jeremiah 38:6-13, when officials cast Jeremiah into a muddy cistern for speaking the word of the Lord, and Ebed-melech courageously appealed to the king to save him. The passage honors faithful intercession, compassion toward the persecuted, and God’s preservation of His messenger through the obedience of a righteous servant.
