My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.’” 12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king said, “Come to me again the third day.” 13 And the king answered the people harshly, and forsaking the counsel that the old men had given him, 14 he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.” 15 So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turn of affairs brought about by the LORD that he might fulfill his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat. 2 Chronicles 10 6 El rey Roboán consultó a los ancianos que habían sido consejeros durante la vida de su padre Salomón, y les preguntó: –¿Qué me aconsejan que responda a este pueblo? 7 Ellos le dijeron: –Si tú tratas con benevolencia a este pueblo, si sabes condescender y los tratas amablemente, ellos estarán siempre a tu servicio. 8 Pero Roboán rechazó este consejo de los ancianos y pidió parecer a sus jóvenes compañeros de infancia que se habían educado con él y estaban a su servicio. 9 Les preguntó: –¿Qué me aconsejan que responda a este pueblo que me ha hablado así: «Aligera el yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros»? 10 Los jóvenes que se habían educado con él le respondieron: –A este pueblo que te ha dicho eso le responderás: «Mi dedo meñique es más gordo que la espalda de mi padre. 11 Mi padre puso sobre ustedes un yugo pesado, pero yo lo haré aún más pesado; mi padre los azotó con látigo, pero yo lo haré con alacranes». 12 Al tercer día, siguiendo la indicación del rey de reunirse con él a los tres días, Jeroboán junto con todo Israel se presentó ante Roboán. 13 Este los trató duramente; rechazó el consejo de los ancianos y, siguiendo el parecer de los jóvenes, 14 les dijo: –Mi padre les puso un yugo pesado, pero yo lo haré más pesado aún; mi padre los azotó con látigo, pero yo lo haré con alacranes. 15 Así pues, el rey no escuchó al pueblo, según los planes de Dios, para que se cumpliera la palabra que había dado el Señor a Jeroboán, hijo de Nabat, por medio de Ajías de Siló.
