2 Este lugar era conocido por Judas, el traidor, porque Jesús se reunía frecuentemente allí con sus discípulos.3 Así que Judas, llevando consigo un destacamento de soldados romanos y los guardias puestos a su disposición por los jefes de los sacerdotes y los fariseos, se dirigió a aquel lugar. Iban armados y equipados con faroles y antorchas.4 Jesús, que sabía todo lo que le iba a ocurrir, salió a su encuentro y les preguntó: –¿A quién buscan?5 Ellos contestaron: –A Jesús de Nazaret. Jesús les dijo: –Yo soy. Judas, el traidor, estaba allí con ellos.6 En cuanto les dijo: «Yo soy», retrocedieron y cayeron a tierra.7 Jesús les preguntó de nuevo: –¿A quién buscan? Volvieron a contestarle: –A Jesús de Nazaret.8 Jesús les dijo: –Ya les he dicho que soy yo. Por tanto, si me buscan a mí, dejen que éstos se vayan.9 (Así se cumplió lo que él mismo había dicho: «No he perdido a ninguno de los que me diste»).10 Entonces Simón Pedro, que tenía una espada, la desenvainó e hirió con ella a un siervo del sumo sacerdote, cortándole la oreja derecha. (Este siervo se llamaba Malco).11 Pero Jesús dijo a Pedro: –Guarda tu espada. ¿Es que no debo beber este cáliz de amargura que el Padre me ha preparado?12 Los soldados romanos, con su comandante al frente, y la guardia judía, arrestaron a Jesús y le ataron las manos.

47 While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him,48 but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”49 And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.51 But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him.52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?53 When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”

43 Aún estaba hablando Jesús, cuando se presentó Judas, uno de los Doce, y con él un tumulto de gente con espadas y palos, enviados por los jefes de los sacerdotes, los maestros de la ley y los ancianos.44 El traidor les había dado esta contraseña: «Al que yo bese, ése es; arréstenlo y llévenlo bien custodiado».45 En cuanto llegó, se acercó a Jesús y le dijo: –¡Maestro! Y lo besó.46 Ellos se abalanzaron sobre él y lo arrestaron.47 Uno de los presentes sacó la espada y cortó de un golpe la oreja al criado del sumo sacerdote.48 Jesús tomó la palabra y les dijo: –Han salido a detenerme con espadas y palos, como si fuera un bandido.49 A diario estaba con ustedes enseñando en el templo, y no me arrestaron. Pero es necesario que se cumplan las Escrituras.50 Entonces todos sus discípulos lo abandonaron y huyeron.51 Un joven lo iba siguiendo, cubierto tan sólo con una sábana. Lo detuvieron,52 pero él, soltando la sábana, se escapó desnudo.

47 While he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people.48 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; seize him.”49 And he came up to Jesus at once and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” And he kissed him.50 Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do.” Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him.51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.52 Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword.53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?54 But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?”55 At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me.56 But all this has taken place that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.
