Moses descends the rocky slopes of Sinai and beholds Israel dancing before the golden calf. At his feet lie the shattered tablets of the covenant, broken in the dust as a visible sign of the nation’s broken faith. A younger attendant stands behind him among the rocks, while the crowd below celebrates around the idol they made in Moses’ absence. The scene portrays the crisis of Exodus 32, when Israel exchanged the worship of the Lord for a crafted image. The broken commandments expose the seriousness of idolatry: covenant love cannot share its altar with false gods. This artwork is well suited for teaching on the Ten Commandments, repentance, spiritual compromise, covenant faithfulness, and the danger of worshiping what human hands create.
