18 Un hombre importante le preguntó: –Maestro bueno, ¿qué debo hacer para heredar la vida eterna?19 Jesús le dijo: –¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Sólo Dios es bueno.20 Ya conoces los mandamientos: No cometerás adulterio, no matarás, no robarás, no darás falso testimonio, honra a tu padre y a tu madre.21 El respondió: –Todo eso lo he cumplido desde joven.22 Al oír esto Jesús le dijo: –Aún te falta una cosa: vende todo lo que tienes, repártelo entre los pobres y tendrás un tesoro en los cielos. Luego ven y sígueme.23 Pero él, al oír esto, se entristeció porque era muy rico.24 Jesús, viendo que se entristecía, le dijo: –¡Qué difícilmente entrarán en el reino de Dios los que tienen riquezas!25 Es más fácil para un camello pasar por el ojo de una aguja que para un rico entrar en el reino de Dios.26 Los que estaban escuchando preguntaron: –Entonces, ¿quién podrá salvarse?27 Pero Jesús respondió: –Lo que es imposible para los hombres es posible para Dios.28 Entonces Pedro dijo: –Pues nosotros hemos dejado nuestras posesiones y te hemos seguido.29 Y Jesús les dijo: –Les aseguro que todo aquel que haya dejado casa, mujer, hermanos, parientes o hijos por el reino de Dios,30 recibirá mucho más en este mundo, y la vida eterna en el futuro.

17 And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’”20 And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.”21 And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”22 Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.23 And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!”24 And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God!25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”26 And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then who can be saved?”27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”28 Peter began to say to him, “See, we have left everything and followed you.”29 Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel,30 who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

16 En cierta ocasión se acercó uno y le preguntó: –Maestro, ¿qué debo hacer de bueno para obtener la vida eterna?17 Jesús le contestó: –¿Por qué me preguntas acerca de lo bueno? Uno sólo es bueno. Si quieres entrar en la vida, observa los mandamientos.18 El le preguntó: –¿Cuáles? Jesús contestó: –No matarás, no cometerás adulterio, no robarás, no darás falso testimonio;19 honra a tu padre y a tu madre, ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.20 El joven le dijo: –Todo eso ya lo he cumplido. ¿Qué me falta aún?21 Jesús le dijo: –Si quieres ser perfecto, ve a vender todo lo que tienes y dáselo a los pobres; así tendrás un tesoro en los cielos. Luego ven y sígueme.22 Al oír esto, el joven se fue muy triste porque poseía muchos bienes.23 Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: –Yo les aseguro: es difícil que un rico entre en el reino de los cielos.24 De nuevo les digo: es más fácil a un camello pasar por el ojo de una aguja que a un rico entrar en el reino de Dios.25 Al oír esto, los discípulos se quedaron impresionados y dijeron: –Entonces, ¿quién podrá salvarse?26 Jesús los miró y les dijo: –Para los hombres esto es imposible, pero para Dios todo es posible.27 Entonces Pedro tomó la palabra y le dijo: –Nosotros lo hemos dejado todo y te hemos seguido. ¿Qué nos espera?28 Jesús les contestó: –Les aseguro que ustedes, los que me han seguido, cuando todo se haga nuevo y el Hijo del hombre se siente en su trono de gloria, se sentarán también en doce tronos, para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel.29 Y todo el que haya dejado casas, hermanos, hermanas, padre, madre, hijos o tierras por mi causa, recibirá cien veces más y heredará la vida eterna.30 Hay muchos primeros que serán últimos y muchos últimos que serán primeros.
