39 Después salió y fue, como de costumbre, al monte de los Olivos. Sus discípulos lo siguieron.40 Al llegar allí, les dijo: –Oren para que puedan hacer frente a la prueba.41 Se alejó de ellos como a la distancia de un tiro de piedra, se arrodilló y suplicaba así:42 –Padre, si quieres aleja de mí este cáliz de amargura; pero no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya.43 Entonces se le apareció un ángel del cielo, que lo estuvo confortando.44 Lleno de angustia, oraba más intensamente, y comenzó a sudar como gotas de sangre que corrían hasta el suelo.45 Después de orar, se levantó y fue adonde estaban sus discípulos. Los encontró dormidos, pues estaban rendidos por la tristeza.46 Entonces les dijo: –¿Cómo es que están durmiendo? Levántense y oren, para que puedan hacer frente a la prueba.

32 And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled.34 And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.”35 And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.36 And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour?38 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”39 And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words.40 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy, and they did not know what to answer him.41 And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.42 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”

36 Entonces fue Jesús con sus discípulos a un huerto llamado Getsemaní, y les dijo: –Siéntense aquí mientras voy a orar un poco más allá.37 Llevó consigo a Pedro y a los dos hijos de Zebedeo; comenzó a sentir tristeza y angustia,38 y les dijo: –Me muero de tristeza, quédense aquí y velen conmigo.39 Después, avanzando un poco más, cayó rostro en tierra y suplicaba así: –Padre mío, si es posible, aleja de mí este cáliz de amargura; pero no se haga como yo quiero, sino como quieres tú.40 Regresó junto a los discípulos y los encontró dormidos. Entonces dijo a Pedro: –¿De modo que no han podido velar conmigo ni siquiera una hora?41 Velen y oren, para que puedan afrontar la prueba; pues el espíritu está bien dispuesto, pero la carne es débil.42 Se alejó de nuevo por segunda vez y volvió a orar así: –Padre mío, si no es posible evitar que yo beba este cáliz de amargura, hágase tu voluntad.43 Regresó y volvió a encontrarlos dormidos, porque sus ojos se cerraban de sueño.44 Los dejó y volvió a orar por tercera vez, repitiendo las mismas palabras.45 Entonces regresó donde estaban los discípulos y les dijo: –¿Todavía están durmiendo y descansando? Ha llegado la hora y el Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los pecadores.46 Vamos, levántense. Ya está aquí el que me va a entregar.
